Rat in the toilet!

A terrible thing happened last night. It is one one the worst incidents I have ever had the misfortune to witness. THERE WAS A RAT IN OUR TOILET! Here's what went down...

We were all just getting ready for bed, minding our own business. Lydia and I had used the bathroom and Candice was in there brushing her teeth. As I was applying my face cream and getting all snug in bed, we heard a scream. At first we just thought, oh Candice has probably just fallen over again. But no, she runs out screaming "there's a rat in the toilet!"

There were three guys in the dorm room asleep, they woke up to have a look and confirmed that yes, there is indeed a live rat in the toilet. At this point the rat is trying to jump out of the bowl so we all jump onto one of the top bunkbeds and leave the boys to deal with it.

The guy at the hostel had no clue what to do and just started running around the hostel picking up anything in sight. First he came in with a plunger - god knows what he planned to do with that! Next came a broom and a window scraper. They decided that the best plan of attack would be for one of the guys in our room to hold down the rat with the window scraper while the hostel guy bludgened its head with the end of the broom. Horrific.

The first time they tried it, the rat made such a a horrible screaming sound that I was wretching, another guy was nearly sick over the edge of his bed and the hostel guy ran away! The next time they managed it. Here's the video.

It was terrible and we all went to sleep imagining rats crawling into bed with us. Needless to say we haven't used that toilet since. Apparently they have never had a rat in the toilet in the eight years the hostel has been open. TYPICAL!

And the happy ending... the dead and bloody rat was skewered out of the toilet with a kitchen fork and a hand wrapped in a bin bag liner, then thrown in the bin. We were left with bloddy rat water on the bedroom floor. Sweet dreams.
