...San Miguel

To continue...

It wasn`t until we got to San Miguel that we realised just how small it was. The canoe stopped, we climed out and walked about two minutes up a path with houses on either side to the hostel and that was it. Some kids helped carry our bags because the path was quite steep which was sweet, although I think they were kaughing at how out of breath we were. At the hostel a lovely young girl met us and explained about the room, although she (nor anyone in the village) had any English and she couldn`t understand my Spanish, but we got there in the end. The room was acually really nice and clean and, for once, the mosquito nets didn`t have holes. The hostel itself was a big wooden house that the community all has a part in running. The only flaw was that no-one else was staying there so at night it was just Candice and I with a candle in the middle on the forest which was a little freaky.

The next day we went on a trek into the forest with one of the guides. When he saw our hiking boots he said are we sure we`ll be ok because we going to have to CROSS a SMALL river. Turns out the whole trek was down a river and our boots got soaked. It took our boots nearly a week to dry out but it was worth it because we ate some nice fruits, the forest was beautiful and we saw a HUGE boa. It was just in front of us and the guide said it wasn`t dangerous, so we`re like cool what`s it called, he says a bloody boa. Great. From then on we walked a little more carefully.

The only canoe to leave San Miguel departs at 3am. So we had to walk down the the river and board the boat in absolute pitch black. It was an awesome experience travelling down the river in the dark with nothing but a few fireflies and a small torch lighing up the surrounding forest. Defo worth a visit if you get the chance.

Ok got to go, horse riding tomorrow! We`re in a place called Solento now in the coffee region, all the coffee you can drink at the hostel. Yay!
