Day 7: The Lake

It's been a while so i'll back track a bit. After Cusco we headed to Puno to have a look at Lake Titicaca. When we got off the bus from Cusco we went to the hostel with two other people and the hostel owner who travelled in the fetal position in the boot of the taxi along with our backpacks. Sure. The hostel seemed to be the coldest place on Earth, with no hot water so we had to sleep in the same bed with about 12 blankets over us both and we were STILL cold!

The next day we decided to do a two day trip to the lake to see the Uros (floating) islands and the islands of Taquille and Amantani. The lake is amazing, so big and with gorgeous bright blue water. The pics (on facebook) don't really do it justice though. The best bit of the trip was staying with a family on Amantani island. This is their house...

And our nightime toilet, located in our bedroom. It's a good job we know each other well! The daytime toilet was a hole in the ground in the garden.

They were really sweet although in the evening they made us dress up in their traditional clothes and then go and dance with them in the town hall. As you can see it was not a good look for either of us. The skirts are meant to be more ankle length but we were about twice the size of all the women... and men so they didn't really fit. We gave them all a good laugh though.

On the second day, we went the the Uros islands which are made totally from these special reeds that grow in the lake. They were pretty inpressive but everything there seemed to have been set up for tourists so it was a bit weird. They were good to see because I don't think there is anywhereelse quite like them, but i'm glad we spent the previous day on the other islands.
